It was Davis who proposed the paper to be called The Nation and he became its most inspiring writer of patriotic prose and poetry attracting a readership of over a quarter of a million shortly after its first publication in 1842.

Mallow Development Partnership Heritage sub-group will in 2014 erect a status to the famous Mallow man Thomas Davis on the occasion of the bi-centenary of his birth in the town in 1814. The status is a bronze copy of Hogan's famous status of Davis presently located in the Rotunda in the City Hall in Dublin.

Following the success of the 2011 event, the Mallow Development Partnership (MDP) and NCE-MSTL have launched the second annual Mallow Science and Maths Family Fair. Billed as the ‘largest community Science and Maths Fair in the Country’ the fair is open to EVERYONE from very young to the ‘not so’ young and is FREE to ENTER.

Launch of Systems Innovation Centre

On Monday, June 18th 2012 a significant new project to use emerging technologies for economic development in Mallow was launched. The Mallow Systems Innovation Centre aims to create a research and innovation resource that will help to drive positive technological, economic and educational dividends for the town and North Cork. The Centre is an initiative of the Mallow Development Partnership and is being undertaken in conjunction with Cork Institute of Technology. It is funded by Cork County Council’s Economic Development Fund and by Mallow Town Council.
Mallow Students head to Shanghai, China

8 students from Mallow's Davis College and the Patrician Academy are off to Shanghai, China this Easter. The transition year students have been studying Chinese as part of a Mallow Development Partnership programme in association with the UCC Department of Asian Studies since last September.

Mallow’s state of the art Primary Healthcare Centre (MPHC) was named Ireland’s Best Healthcare Building at the Local Authority Members Awards (LAMA) in Dublin on February 11th last. The awards recognise local projects of excellence in the areas of infrastructure, community development, recreation and national impact initiatives.

Busy Time for Mallow Chamber

3 new businesses have opened up on Main Street in Mallow. Preparations are underway for the Chamber's Casino Night on October 14th and the Chamber have also launched the 4th annual Mallow Business Awards.
Mallow Town Mural

Painting of the Mallow Town Mural will get underway on September 19th at the lower end of O'Brien Street. The mural has been taken from an old photograph and will portray Davis Street from the Town Hall to the Clock House at the turn of the last century and is an integral part of the Mallow Historical Rebel Trail which covers the same period and recalls the townspeople's traumatic experiences during the War of Independence and the subsequent Civil War.
