Mallow General Hospital (MGH) is an acute 76 bed hospital situated on the main Mallow/Limerick road approx 1 mile outside Mallow town. MGH serves a population of between 85,000/90,000 people. Working in  close collaboration with primary care physicians, MGH provides second level care for the population of Mallow and the huge hinterland of North Cork. MGH also has close links with tertiary care centres in Cork City.

 MGH is part of the Cork University Hospital Group. The other hospitals are Cork University Hospital and St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital. The services provided at MGH include: 

  • General Surgery (incl Urology and ENT)
  • General Medicine (incl Cardiology and Gastroenterology)
  • Day Procedure Unit
  • Intensive Care/Coronary Care
  • Accident and Emergency
  • Radiology
  • Out Patient Department

The Hospital is involved in teaching nursing, medical, and paramedical students.  An in-service education programme is co-ordinated by the hospital’s clinical development co-ordinator.

Visiting specialities include:

  • Paediatrics
  • Orthpaedic Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Respiratory Medicine
  • Dermatology

In the hospital is a well equipped Radiology Department, including a CT scanner. Other facilities in the Hospital include an active Laboratory. A Physiotherapy Department provides care for in-patients and out-patients.

Mallow Development Partnership Heritage sub-group will in 2014 erect a status to the famous Mallow man Thomas Davis on the occasion of the bi-centenary of his birth in the town in 1814. The status is a bronze copy of Hogan's famous status of Davis presently located in the Rotunda in the City Hall in Dublin.
