National Design Award for Thomas Davis Square

Thomas Davis Square has been awarded third place in the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland Public Choice Awards. The Thomas Davis Square was among more than 50 projects short-listed for the Public Choice Awards. Designed by Mallow Town Architect Giulia Vallone and the Cork County Council Architects Department, the Thomas Davis Square is the first phase of the ambitious Mallow Urban Heritage Plan. Winning such a prestigious award is a great success story for Mallow and will assist to boost the profile of Mallow to a wider audience.

Mallow Town Free Wi-Fi Zone

Mallow has become the first town in Cork County to offer free public wi-fi. The initiative, which is a partnership approach between Cork County Council and CIT is available to the general public on a pilot basis from Market Square down to the new Thomas Davis Civic Plaza. Free access is for 60 minutes. The complimentary Wi-fi is an essential service for tourists and shoppers alike to show case what Mallow town and its environs have to offer visitors. The Beacon Retail Programme run by Cork County Council under the Economic Development Fund was recently run in Mallow. The primary aim of the initiative is to provide a diverse pool of talented expertise across a range of industry sectors. Mallow Urban Design Plan

Mallow Development Partnership (MDP) in association with Kanturk/Mallow Municipal Authority Cork County Council and Mallow Chamber, have engaged the services of Mr Cathal O’Meara, Landscape Architect to prepare an urban design and landscape architectural plan to assist in the preparation of the Mallow Local Area Plan 2015-2021. The aim is to prepare and implement a detailed Town Improvement Scheme to visually enhance the street scapes and key urban spaces in the town centre and approach roads and to consider solutions to improve pedestrian / cycle connectivity between Mallow North and Mallow South.
