Alastair Russell returns to Mallow Castle
It's been well over 50 years since Alastair Russell last visited Mallow Castle as a young boy, to stay with his relatives Brigadier Maurice Jephson & his wife Eileen who resided there at that time.
And so on Thursday last August 22nd, Micheál Ó'Néill of Mallow Development Partnership and Mallow Heritage Group had great pleasure in accompanying Alastair, his wife Mary and daughter Joanna back to the Castle for this significant and nostalgic visit both for the family and for Mallow's heritage interests.
Our thanks must go out to all those that contributed to making it a lovely day for Alastair and his family, with a warm welcome received from so many Mallow patrons throughout the day.
And also our thanks must go to Cork County Council for ensuring this visit and Alastair's unique insights into Mallow Castle were captured in interview and so not lost to future generations.
In particular we would like to mention and thank Cllr Pat Hayes of Mallow Chamber of Commerce, Mary Hayes and Niamh Mullins of Cork County Council, Michael O'Flaherty Executive Librarian at Cork County Library & Arts Service, Darren & Kevin Owens at The Hibernian Hotel & Leisure Centre, and the many others such as Ned Murphy groundsman at Mallow Castle, Benjie Hallihan & family, Conor Nelligan of County Heritage, Kevin Myers of Mallow field club, Canon Eithne Lynch, Margaret Desmond and Helen O'Connell of Mallow Heritage Group and SO MANY MORE for making the visit such a memorable one for Alastair, Mary, Joanna and indeed for Mallow Town itself.
